Hitchcock review and the weekend.

Happy Monday!

R got out of work early on Saturday, and had an unexpected day off yesterday-- SO my weekend was goood.

On Saturday night we went to a double feature at Hollywood's Egyptian Theater-- a pre-screening of the new movie, Hitchcock followed by a discussion with the Director, costumer and writer ("Alfred Hitchcock and the making of Psycho"), THEN a 35mm screening of Pyscho (my favorite Hitchcock film, of course).

It was glorious. We're big Hitchcock fans, so it really was a treat.

And now a short review:

Hitchcock, directed by Sacha Gervasi -- Starring Anthony Hopkins as Hitch, Helen Mirren as Alma (Other notable performances by Scarlett Johansson & Jessica Biel) was such a gem!

Hopkins is wildly entertaining as Hitch, and Mirren delivered nothing short of an Oscar worthy performance (because she always does) as Alma, Hitchcock's wife and business partner.

The film is a (qucik) glimpse into the life of Hitchcock during the filming of Psycho in 1959, Hollywood. (Which was apparently shot in only 35 days).

Only grazing the surface of what real Hitchcock lovers know (and love) about the man himself-- For the sake of a 90 minute film, Hitchcock was witty, entertaining, and even suspenseful. The heart of the film is a love story between a man and his wife, and a man bleeding for his his art. We get to see that Alma truly was the beloved and brilliant woman behind the (maddeningly) brilliant director, Alfred Hitchcock-- Despite his obsessions with his "Hitchcock Blonds."

Then on Sunday we got some chores & grocery shopping out of the way, followed by an afternoon of hanging out with one of our east coast buddies.

We took the bus to Hollywood, ate Chinese food, had a few brews, wondered around observing all the Holly-weirdos, took the train, walked home.. and zonked out.

 And that's all for now.

How was YOUR weekend?!

Namaste,

coconut icecream and Hitchcock.

Last night R & I shared some coconut gelato & dark chocolate after a long walk on the beach.
(Who needs girlfriends when you have the worlds greatest human for a fiance)
We also watched Hitchcock's, The Lady Vanishes & ate gluten free pasta salad.

Not sure what is on the agenda for this weekend--I think we're going to try and take the kayaks out & hit up the beach. Since it isn't raining anymore I'm hoping we can sneak a hike in there somewhere too.

I'm off to paint.

Good Morning, Monday!

You know who makes me crazy? People who dread Monday.

I mean how can you dread a day of your life? I know Monday is the furthest day from the weekend, and characteristically, Mondays tend to be the screwiest day of the week, especially if you work in an office.. but you know what I say?

Each day is exactly how you want it to be, you can choose to enjoy it for all its quirks (good & bad) or not.

I think Mondays are great. A new chapter. Didn't work out enough last week? Well try harder this week. Ate like a pig last week? Eat better this week.

(BTW, I am not sure what my deal was last week, but working out and eating healthy were not on the agenda.. you win some.. you lose some, I'm pretty sure I gained 2.)

No.. you still hate Mondays? well.. whatever.

//end rant.

This weekend was spent with friends. On Friday night there was a surprise party for my good friend Kayla  who is moving to Orlando for a job-- a job she is actually excited about. I am happy for her, but selfishly, I am sad that she wont be bopping by my casa after work for some vino and girl talk. After a few glasses of wine, I caved, and shed a few tears because even though she will only be a whopping 2.5 hours away.. 2.5 hours is just long enough to be a pain in the ass to just go for the day.

I'm just saying.

On Saturday, I was tired and grumpy... but I managed to make it to the home depot with R so we could price out some supplies for our garden. We always have fruiting plants, but lately we've been lackadaisical about our garden (& laundry, & cleaning) so we thought a little garden make-over would get us pumped up again.

Of course Tropical Storm Debbie is causing us to worry that our plants will drown, but the south-east coast of FL seems to be fairing well with the rains (and pretty much no wind). We needed the rain so badly.

Whilst perusing the wood section of the home depot (my favorite isle-- I love the smell of lumber) I remembered that I've been meaning to try out Masonite Board in lieu of canvas, so I had the guy cut some in half for me, and I am just waiting for the gesso to dry so I can start painting.

I am a texture person, so I am pretty exited to see how my paintings look on a grittier texture. Plus, I feel like one of the Highway Men-- all their paintings are done on Masonite too. ;)

After taking a nap on Saturday I went to the mall with Kayla where we ate cupcakes and searched for luggage. Having failed at luggage we decided to go to TJ Max and find something cute to wear.

I scored this cute dress.

Thanks mom!

And then R and I went out for round 2 of drinks with friends. We normally don't go out, so having gone to two functions revolving around alcohol, I must say.. I am rather happy to have my health today because yesterday R ended up sleeping & being sick all day, and I was feeling a little poopy as well.

We had fun though, and it has been really awesome meeting locals. I drank a beer called Yetti, and it was so good. At one point the bartender said to me, "One more of these and I'm gonna start looking reaaaal good"

Its dark and strong. R and I had to split the 3rd.

Having a slow Sunday was great motivation to stock up on some really healthy-energizing groceries, and recommit myself to a full schedule at the gym/yoga this week. My mom will be here in TEN days! Which means.... in eleven days I will be forced to try on wedding dresses-- so I need to get with the program so I don't feel like a bloated pig! :)

Now I am off to the Red Cross to learn how to do Disaster Education with the simulator (Its an RV that simulates fires, hurricanes & tornado-- cool right?) Then, I'm going to find myself a summer part time because business is SLOW. I'm thinking I want to hit up the new Tevana in the mall-- Best Tea EVER.

Namaste!

Weekend of R & R

Our weekend was peaceful & productive.

We got our hammock hung (finally), we made some saw-horses for the Kayaks to sit upon and we managed to get some much needed R&R.

The hammock it my new favorite place.

Have I mentioned that I am totally in love with our new pad-- I swear this house is magical.

I also managed to sneak in some cuddle time with my sweet Loki.

...and I made some very important To-Do Lists for the week.

On Sunday night we had dinner with my good friend and her family-- always a good time if I do say so myself. We geeked out over a puzzle and ate yummy nomz.

My Mother-in-Law is headed our way today, so if that's not motivation to bleach the tub, I don't know what is.. Since my type A personality only seems to shine when I am expecting company, I am sure sometime this week I can deliver some pictures of our humble abode, our cleaned and organized abode.

I LOVE IT. I love everything about this place. I love the way our stuff looks in it, I love the way the wind blows around it, and I love the way the trees sway behind it. It's true, true love and I can't wait to share it with yous peoples. (Jersey Housewives much?)

In anticipation of my MIL showing up, I am making some granola to send to the beach with her and I plan on sharing that recipe here later in this week-- In fact I will be sharing a lot more recipes around here now that we aren't moving anymore-- Ugh, moving is the pits!

What was your weekend like? Did you spoil your mamas?

Namaste!

Saturday Rituals.

I wasn't going to post today, but here I am!

Saturday mornings for me are nice and quite. During the week I usually spend 7:30-8:30 trying to get R out the door. Before I moved in, he had a bad habit of forgetting to set an alarm clock and arriving to work late... really late....quite frankly he isn't a freak of nature morning person like I am, so getting out the door in the morning is a team effort.

So I like love Saturday and Sunday mornings, because until about 930-10 o'clock its all about me, the cats, my coffee and whatever I want to do. I usually pick a movie on Netflix that I have never seen before, clean the kitchen and get breakfast started. I get a good 3 hours of guilt free me time.

Whilst perusing movies, I saw Little Black Book, and realized that I kind of miss Brittany Murphy movies.. its a darn shame that she is gone, because even if some of the movies she was in were less then cerebral, she was cute, quirky and her acting was quite good. So I clicked on her name, found a bunch of movies on instant play, and the winner is Fallen Sky, which I have never seen and Brit is a lead in it so..

I am sure when R wakes up he will scoff at my taste in movies, but I have watched every Cohen Brother movies we own several times already, and Saturday mornings are my time, so I could care less what my sweet love has to say about that. <3

We've been pretty lazy on Saturdays lately, so we are planning a long 10 mile hike and picnic today. Should be a good time, and maybe we will bring the 5D and film/shoot some pics. :)

15 mile bike loop in the Everglades, Shark Vally.
Oh and BTW, I started P90x last night, and I really can not believe how sore I am. Its not like I went from doing NOTHING to P90x, I was working out before I started. I am really scared to do the video today. AND I have to do it before we hike, otherwise I wont. Ab Ripper X had to of been created by satin himself, it is 15 minutes of pure HELL.

My brain is hurting now, thinking before consuming coffee is painful.

Have a healthy Saturday! (Make good choices!)
