URGENT!!! Scary Senate News (Updated 12-2-11)

I want to preface this with I am not trying to get politically heavy here, and I promise after this post I will get off the soapbox for a while. Quite frankly, politics makes my blood pressure rise, but I have been paying a lot more attention recently to what is happening-- With an upcoming election and all, I try to stay MORE in the loop than usual. Today while I was perusing around, I saw the most frightening thing...

Is everyone aware that "The Senate voted Tuesday to keep a controversial provision to let the military detain terrorism suspects on U.S. soil and hold them indefinitely without trial -- (prompting White House officials to reissue a veto threat.)" (HP)

If this isn't vetoed, then we just lost our right to due process, a jury of our peers, legal representation and a fair trial if suspected of being a terrorist.. Not only is this a gross violation of one of our BASIC constitutional rights as US Citizens, it's freaking scary. We are inching closer and closer to a Policed State everyday.

One thing that makes this so scary is.. Terrorism isn't defined. That means the government/military can essentially detain anyone who is thought to be a terrorist, even on a hunch. As if that wasn't bad enough, if "they" (the government/military) consider you to be a "terrorist" of any kind you no longer have to be grated the right to a fair trial, legal representation and a jury of your peers. That's right, you can be detained indefinitely, without your family, friends, community knowing what happened to you. Can you imagine!? US Citizens getting snatched up and shipped off to G-Bay just because they exercised their freedom of speech or right to protest, or because a pissed off neighbor wanted to play dirty?? Terrorist is one of those words that can be defined loosely if necessary, but shouldn't..

It is also scary that so many elected officials were in FAVOR of keeping these provisions.

There is only one argument for this; This is flat out Unconstitutional-- In fact, this is a direct breach of contract to protect the Constitution that each and every one of these members swore an Oath to protect!

BOTH parties are responsible for this, this is not a party issue. Vote these people out!

The world is at your fingertips; look into what other people are saying about this.. Look beyond mainstream media (hell, avoid CNN, FOX,  MSNBC all together) If you read news articles, remember the message/comment boards have a lot links to great articles related to this issue, not to mention the wonderful thoughts and opinions of fellow citizens. As always, some are more quality than others, but I am sure you can figure that out yourself. :)

They thought they were free- an article written about the rise of Nazi Germany 1933-45; While this was written in 1955, there are some scary parallels to what is happening now.

If you dig around here you can see some of the conversations, provisions, etc. Below I provided the names of all of those who voted in favor of keeping these provisions.

We are being DUMBED down and DISTRACTED, it's time to get our hands dirty and seek the truth, otherwise we will lose everything we stand for as Americans, and I really don't think I am being dramatic here.

  1. Terrifying is right. It just makes me sick to my stomach just thinking about it... and it makes me so angry when people are just all "La la la la! I can't hear you! I'm not listening!" in response to when you bring stuff like this up...

Stuff like this is exactly why I'm supportive of the Occupy movement.

  2. Really does seem to shake the core of the Constitution, if it's not vetoed it will be quite the travesty.

  4. Jen was telling me about this earlier today, because her mom told her. It's ridiculous!!! I am ALL for arresting and QUESTIONING terrorism suspects. Our country is our home and it's our duty to PROTECT. This? THIS is not protecting. THIS is fucking SCARY. Like you said, terrorism is a loose term. Also, like you said, a neighbor or even a complete stranger can be playing dirty because for whatever reason they don't like you.

On top of that, this bill is basically saying ANYONE can be arrested. This IS unconstitutional. This is just... fucking scary.

  5. Yea, it has been really interesting watching the response to the OWS folks, it's a real inspection of what is under the hood in this country.. It is really sad that most people don't even KNOW what our Senate/Congress are doing on a day to day basis, let a lone HOW they are voting. These people need to have a warrant out of their arrest, and be removed from their position immediately, and Obama best veto that bill or I am certain we will lose any ounces of freedom that we have left. It's all already happened, they are positioning themselves for the ultimate checkmate-- only it's not a game of chess that we are losing, it's our freedom. Our founding fathers are rolling over in their graves right now...
