Is everyone aware that "The Senate voted Tuesday to keep a controversial provision to let the military detain terrorism suspects on U.S. soil and hold them indefinitely without trial -- (prompting White House officials to reissue a veto threat.)" (HP)
If this isn't vetoed, then we just lost our right to due process, a jury of our peers, legal representation and a fair trial if suspected of being a terrorist.. Not only is this a gross violation of one of our BASIC constitutional rights as US Citizens, it's freaking scary. We are inching closer and closer to a Policed State everyday.
One thing that makes this so scary is.. Terrorism isn't defined. That means the government/military can essentially detain anyone who is thought to be a terrorist, even on a hunch. As if that wasn't bad enough, if "they" (the government/military) consider you to be a "terrorist" of any kind you no longer have to be grated the right to a fair trial, legal representation and a jury of your peers. That's right, you can be detained indefinitely, without your family, friends, community knowing what happened to you. Can you imagine!? US Citizens getting snatched up and shipped off to G-Bay just because they exercised their freedom of speech or right to protest, or because a pissed off neighbor wanted to play dirty?? Terrorist is one of those words that can be defined loosely if necessary, but shouldn't..
It is also scary that so many elected officials were in FAVOR of keeping these provisions.
There is only one argument for this; This is flat out Unconstitutional-- In fact, this is a direct breach of contract to protect the Constitution that each and every one of these members swore an Oath to protect!
BOTH parties are responsible for this, this is not a party issue. Vote these people out!
The world is at your fingertips; look into what other people are saying about this.. Look beyond mainstream media (hell, avoid CNN, FOX, MSNBC all together) If you read news articles, remember the message/comment boards have a lot links to great articles related to this issue, not to mention the wonderful thoughts and opinions of fellow citizens. As always, some are more quality than others, but I am sure you can figure that out yourself. :)
They thought they were free- an article written about the rise of Nazi Germany 1933-45; While this was written in 1955, there are some scary parallels to what is happening now.
If you dig around here you can see some of the conversations, provisions, etc. Below I provided the names of all of those who voted in favor of keeping these provisions.
We are being DUMBED down and DISTRACTED, it's time to get our hands dirty and seek the truth, otherwise we will lose everything we stand for as Americans, and I really don't think I am being dramatic here.
